Parent Involvement Policy

Purpose of this policy: To foster a positive partnership between the faculty and staff of Hilton Head Island Early Childhood Center, parents, and community members to achieve improved academic success for all students.
Hilton Head Island Early Childhood Center shall:
1. Inform and distribute the Parent Involvement Policy during our annual Open House.
2. Offer flexible meeting times to involve parents in various parenting programs. These presentations will provide parents with materials and training to help them understand how to work with their child to improve his/her academic achievement.
3. Send all information regarding programs, meetings and activities to parents. When appropriate/possible in the family’s home language.
4. Provide programs to enhance parents’ knowledge of the curriculum and how they can best work with their child to improve academic achievement.
5. Provide programs that explain our school wide PBIS implementation and share ideas on extending PBIS from school to home.
6. Inform parents of Parenting/Family Literacy programs/Math night and other opportunities to learn about academic areas and how they can assist their children at home to improve school achievement.
7. On multiple occasions, inform, educate, and review with parents, MAP, Fountas & Pinnell, DRA2+ and any other skill assessments utilized to assess student achievement.
8. Provide parents with an “open-door” policy, giving parents a chance to meet with staff members during reasonable hours, opportunities for parents to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities.
9. Provide parents with opportunities to volunteer through SIC (School Improvement Council) and TPAC (Teacher Parent Advisory Council).
10. Involve parents in community-based programs that support increased parental involvement.
11. Provide families and students support from Bilingual Liaison, Guidance Counselor, and Social Worker.
